BHEL Bhopal Transportation Group is having state of the art Design, Development, Manufacturing and testing facilities for Electrics (viz. AC Traction Motor, DC traction Motor, Alternators and Auxiliary machines) and train set system. Group also caters requirement of Electrics for Oil Field (AC & DC Oil Rig Motors, Oil rig Alternators) and defense application. Transportation Group of BHEL, Bhopal has been pioneer in design and engineering for supply of electrics to meet the demand of Indian railways and various other customer. TPTN group is also responsible for design and development of all types of traction grade Gears and Pinion. For catering requirement a dedicated latest modern facility viz. gear hobbing and 3D Coordinate Measurement Centers for manufacturing of gears with highest level of precision. With the help of advance Software viz. AutoCad, UGNx, Ansys, MotarCad, new designs are analyzed and proceed for further development and analysis. This includes Electrical performance of machine like Torque speed characteristics, electromechanical design including insulation scheme, performance like Shaft calculation, bearing performance, Frame design, etc.

To meet accuracy and precision requirement of finally manufactured product at component level itself, manufacturing facility is equipped with latest CNC machining centers and further to ensure quality of machined components, shop is equipped with 3D Coordinate Measurement Centers working round the clock for checking the dimensional accuracy of components as per design and process requirement. Winding Shop is equipped with the dust free air conditioned winding facility and Vacuum Pressure Impregnation Plants to meet ultimate electrical performance requirement of machines.

For overall system Testing , Centre for Electric Transportation (CET) lab is a unique facility equipped with 25 kV AC, 1500/750 V DC and envisaged to act as focal point for systems oriented research in the area of electric TRANSPORTATION. In this facility all type of transportation systems viz. Performance Evaluation for Rail Vehicles (EMU,DEMU, MEMU, Electric Loco). Apart from system level, lab also support product group for specialized testing of traction alternators, motor generator sets, wheeling test of traction motor with MSU.
