In central India, BHEL Bhopal is one of the pioneer engineering and manufacturing industry in Heavy Engineering sector of economy. Material Testing & Calibration is looked after by Technical Services Division (TSD) in BHEL Bhopal. The department has got facilities for testing of materials and calibration of instruments for technical requirements of quality assurance purpose.

Testing & Calibration Facilities at TSD

  • TSD has testing laboratories in the field of Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Metallurgical and Vibration. It provides a reliable Testing environment of raw materials as per Indian standards (IS) / International standards, ASTM / IEC / ASME / DIN / BS which is critical in present scenario for assurance of quality of finished product(s).
  • It caters the testing of variety of material like ferrous and non-ferrous metals, Insulating Materials, Transformer Oil, Paints, etc. Highly skilled and qualified manpower look after the testing of materials in TSD. TSD lab is equipped with latest state of art equipment for material testing like Brinell Hardness from Easydur Italy, Vicker Hardness from Struers Denmark, HPLC from shimadzu, Japan, Viscometer from Lauda Germany, Electrical Sheet Tester & Franklin Tester from Brockhaus Germany etc.

Calibration Facilities at TSD

Calibration of the measuring instruments has become integral part of modern manufacturing landscape. It enables users and businesses to have confidence in the results that they monitor, record and evaluate. The calibrated equipment helps to achieve or create benchmark by maintaining accuracy, standardization and repeatability in measurements, assuring reliability in results.

BHEL Bhopal boasts of state of the art calibration facilities (Electrical, Pressure, Dimension and Thermal stream) at TSD. All the Calibration Labs at TSD are ISO 17025 certified by NABL.

The labs have latest equipment as well as experienced manpower to perform the calibration activities.

  • At Electrical Calibration Lab, facility is available for calibration of DC, AC Voltage/ Current, DC Resistance, Temperature Simulation, High/ Low Resistance, 3 Phase Power. 3 phase AC Energy, Voltage/ Current Harmonics, Frequency, Transformer Turns Ratio. various ranges.
  • At Thermal Calibration Lab, there is facility for calibration of RTDs, Thermocouples, Digital thermometer, Glass Thermometers among varied ranges
  • At Pressure Calibration Lab, there is facility for calibration of absolute vacuum gauge, Pressure gauges of varied pressure ranges
  • At Dimensional Calibration Lab, there is facility for Calibration of Plain/Thread Ring/Plug Gauges, Dial Gauges, feeler gauges, Mic setting Rod, Thickness Foil, Length Bar, Thread Measuring Wire, Gauge Block Set, Vernier Calliper, Depth Gauge, Micrometre of various types, Height Gauge, Straight Edges etc.
